About Kanchi Math
Jagadguru Pujyasri Sankara Vijayendra Saraswati Sankaracharya Swamiji
(70th Acharya)
Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, established over 2,500 years ago by Jagadguru Sri Adi Sankaracharya, stands as a beacon of Sanatana Dharma, Advaita Vedanta, and national cultural unity. Rooted in the sacred city of Kanchipuram, one of India’s seven Mokshapuris— the Peetham carries an unbroken Guru Parampara of 71 revered Acharyas, who have dedicated their lives to the preservation of Vedic knowledge and the upliftment of society.
Through his teachings of Advaita Vedanta, Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya awakened a spiritual renaissance across Bharat, uniting people through the timeless understanding of oneness. His Digvijaya yatras from Kashmir to Kanyakumari strengthened national integration, restored dharmic values, and reaffirmed the spiritual foundations of Sanatana Dharma.
The Peetham stands on the strength of an unbroken Guru Parampara of 71 revered Acharyas, each upholding the vision of Adi Shankara with unwavering devotion. Over the centuries, the Math has nurtured Vedic learning, protected sacred traditions, and carried out dharmic activities across India and around the world. Through education, spiritual guidance, cultural preservation, social service, and community upliftment, the Peetham continues to serve as a beacon of Dharma for all.
His Holiness carries a deep and expansive vision for the preservation of Sanatana Vaidika Dharma. Under his guidance, the Peetham has established Integrated Pathashalas, where students receive both contemporary education and Vedic training — nurturing a balanced, dharmic way of life. His Holiness takes keen interest in epigraphy, archaeology, Indian scripts such as Grantha, Sharada, Telugu, and Gurumukhi, and actively encourages the protection of India’s diverse cultural traditions. With tireless dedication, he works toward a harmonious society rooted in Vedic values, knowledge, and compassion.
